I➜The CHA2DS2-VASc score predicts clinical risk of stroke and thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation. Developed on the same principles as the CHADS2 score it considers additional 'clinically relevant non-major' stroke risk factors: age 65-74, female gender and vascular disease. This results in better discrimination between high and low risk patient. The maximum CHADS2 score is 6, whilst the maximum CHA2DS2-VASc score is 9. Matching CHA2DS2-VASc score and HAS-BLED score allows the physician to choose the antithrombotic treatment tailored for every patient.
